Featured Project: Salvaged Oak Parquet Floor - Bury St Edmunds Airbnb

Project Overview:

In this remarkable project, "East Anglia Carpentry" had the privilege of restoring and repurposing salvaged oak parquet flooring from a historic school. The flooring not only carried a rich legacy but also presented a unique challenge as it was encased in bitumen. This restoration was destined to grace a stunning Airbnb property in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, nestled just opposite the majestic cathedral.

Salvaging the Oak Parquet Floor:

With a deep appreciation for preserving heritage, we carefully salvaged the oak parquet floor from the school, ensuring each tile was handled with the utmost care. However, the original flooring was marred by layers of bitumen, presenting a meticulous task to restore the tiles to their former glory.

Attention to Detail: Removing the Bitumen:

Our skilled team meticulously removed the bitumen from each parquet tile, dedicating painstaking hours to ensure the wood's natural beauty could shine through. Employing specialised techniques, we delicately stripped away the encasing substance, revealing the rich character and warmth that only aged oak can possess.

Crafting the Parquet Pattern:

With the bitumen removed, we began crafting the parquet pattern that would be the centrepiece of the Airbnb property. Every tile was thoughtfully arranged, embracing traditional craftsmanship to achieve a timeless pattern that complemented the historical significance of the oak.

Airbnb in Bury St Edmunds: A Showcase of Heritage:

Our restored oak parquet floor found its new home in a breathtaking Airbnb property located in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, just opposite the iconic cathedral. The parquet floor became an integral part of the property's design, welcoming guests with a touch of history and providing an unforgettable backdrop for their stay.

Preserving History, Welcoming the Future:

This project exemplifies the harmonious blend of preserving heritage and embracing contemporary design. By salvaging and repurposing the oak parquet floor, "East Anglia Carpentry" contributed to a sustainable future while honouring the history of both the school and the cherished town of Bury St Edmunds.
